Avoiding any puns to do with the name, Jesus CU is a friendly bunch of loveable oddballs brought together by a shared faith in Christ, and a commitment to reaching every student and staff member in our college, whether that’s through “Bop Love” water and snacks or deep conversations over toasties, crepes or even donuts! In terms our bible studies, we meet on even-numbered weeks, alternate to OICCU (Oxford Intercollegiate Christian Union) Central weeks, usually after dinner (18:30) on a Wednesday, in the chapel, although at least once a term, we grab some pizza together, offering a great, informal opportunity to invite non-Christian friends.

As for Central weeks, we gather at The Mitre (19:30) for a pre-meeting (non-alcoholic!) drink, to catch up and grow as a community. We also put on a termly CU Evensong in the chapel, with readings, prayers and music from our members.

We also really value our relationship with the Chapel, and often run events together as a collective Christian community in college.

Also going on in the week:

  • OICCU Central – Every other Saturday, all the college CU groups come together to share what’s been happening in our colleges and encourage one another in our evangelism! Check out the OICCU website here.
  • Prayer Meeting – 5.30pm every Friday in the chapel. Take some time out at the end of the week to lift your prayers to God.
  • Chapel – There’s evensong every Sunday at 5.45pm and a communion service at 6.15pm on Thursdays. Come along and enjoy a service in our lovely college Chapel.
  • Theologians Anonymous – Join us on Wednesdays for discussion, Bible banter and a free lunch!
  • If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with me, Tom Iszatt (thomas.iszatt@jesus.ox.ac.uk), and I’d love to have a chat, or feel free to come along to one of our meetings – it would be awesome to see you!

P.S. OICCU have a centralised exec, who manage the intercollegiate CU as a whole. If you want to contact a member of the exec, the best way to do it is to email me and I can point you in the direction of the appropriate person. For general reference, the OICCU President is Sam Hodson, and the International Rep is Shinae Lee. More information can also be found at www.oiccu.org
